Action on Disability Rights and Development is nonpolitical, Non-Governmental, non-profit making rights based development Organization of persons with disabilities, functional in Nepal since its establishment in 2008. The public advocacy and media mobilisation convened by this organisation has pushed for the CRPD ratification and transforming disabilities into development agendas. The objectives of ADRAD are the Promotion of accessible books for persons with visual and print disabilities in Nepal that is in line with the article 9 of UNCRPD. The application and promotion of accessible Information and Communication Technology is prime focus of ADRAD that provide an opportunity to persons with disabilities to enjoy the International and National legislation concerning Human Rights of Persons with Disabilities. By the use of latest technology, the rights holders utilise opportunity and participate in mainstreaming educational program and overall development process.
ADRAD, as a networking organisation engaged in disability rights promotion, considered as cross-disability platform and executed by the person with disabilities as self-help organisation, the accessible multimedia representation has been prime area of its action. The DAISY DTB is being produced in collaboration with the organisations serving the students with print and visual disabilities. In this instant, ADRAD is privileged by the Government coordination through Department of Education and Curriculum Development Center for the adoption of DAISY environment for the school level textbooks and enhancing learning capabilities of students with visual and print disabilities. This type of collaboration opens the space for the new possibilities of International cooperation in supporting development and adoption of such technology, which is very much helpful for ensuring the sustainable use of latest technology in educational field, accessible to all students.
ADRAD functions to ensure positive changes in lives of Persons with Disabilities by enjoyment of rights, supporting inclusion in the mainstream society through awareness building, sensitization, capacity building, information dissemination, networking and accessible environment.
